The Mikkelson program aims to encourage and reward excellence in the teaching of mathematics and science by providing scholarships for teachers to attend short courses, seminars, and workshops that will improve their depth of knowledge of the subject(s) they teach and/or enhance their teaching skills and effectiveness. Money is available for attendance fees, materials, accommodations, and/or travel expenses. A "once in a lifetime" opportunity is being made available to teachers and students to explore the geologic, archeological, and biologic wonders of the Grand Canyon. Most of the cost of this 9-day excursion is fully subsidized, with only transportation expenses to and from the Canyon and gratuities being the responsibilites of the teacher/student participants.
